PHX Golf Club
The year began with the biggest project our students have ever started. Not knowing each other, they were given a task. They were told to start a business that drives trackable results and real revenue.
The excitement grew as we discussed being paid once the business became profitable.
“Coach, what’s the business? What are we selling?”
The directions were very simple. They needed to look around Victory Lane and build a business that would solve a real problem at the sports park.
They started researching, brainstorming, and coming up with ideas—some good, some not as good. Eventually, they decided to open a coffee shop because no “good” coffee was being served at the youth baseball tournament.
So, we started doing the financials and building the business plan.
As we went through it, we realized the shop would only be open Saturday and Sunday, would be closed in the summer, and the margin was pretty slim—conclusion: back to the drawing board.
This is when the project really took off.
I gave them a little nudge to think differently about the park, and we eventually landed on building a golf simulation company.
With a little help from Coach Tyler and Eric at TrackMan, they reworked the financials, budget, and startup plan.
Eureka! They came up with a solid plan and the budget to get things going.
We are super excited to launch PHX Golf Club!
Why this is so cool.
Did you know: Fewer than 1% of all college athletes receive a “full-ride” athletic scholarship that covers all tuition, fees, room, board, and books. While roughly 57% of Division I and 63% of Division II student-athletes receive some form of athletic financial aid, most receive partial scholarships split among many players.
Once the business is profitable and pays them a wage, the proceeds will go into a scholarship fund for college athletes to cover the gap left by their athletic scholarships.
So, how can you help? Great questions; glad you asked.
- If you own or know a business owner, consider a Business Partner promotion package at Victory Lane. Our students have 30 banners available to local businesses for $1500 for the year.
- Make a monthly or one-time individual donation.
- If you work at a company that does a company match, let me know, and Academy 48 can get set up in their system.
- Spread the word and attend the Trunk or Treat event.
This is going to be so much fun watching these kids build something cool that also helps future collegiate athletes. Check out our PHX Golf Club.
